Match the packer to the borehole, not a rounded model name

Drill bit diameter, actual borehole diameter and packer seal diameter are three different dimensions. A “10” designation indicates the intended borehole size; it does not mean every part measures exactly 10 mm.

BOREHOLE AND SEAL

Three dimensions, three meanings.

INTENDED BOREHOLE3/8″
SEAL DIAMETERØ9,43 mm

Version intended for the 3/8″ system. Nominal borehole size and seal dimensions are specified separately.

Before installation, check the actual drill bit dimensions and condition, borehole geometry and the seal's position within the substrate.

HAMMPACK imperial packers are designed for the American market, where drill bit diameters are specified in inches. The 3/8″ and 1/2″ versions have seals matched to these boreholes.

Drill bits wear; boreholes can be irregular

A worn drill bit can produce an undersized or irregular borehole. If the packer is difficult to insert or rotates during tightening, check the bit, borehole diameter and seal expansion zone.

PI-SPHW 10/110 has progressive sealing wings that help it adapt to demanding or irregular boreholes.

Seal length matters

Choose a length that lets the seal expand in sound substrate while the outlet delivers material into the intended zone. In a thin element, an excessively long seal can block access to the crack.

Seals: check the complete system

  • Coupler-to-nipple connection: geometry and condition of gripping and sealing components.
  • Nipple-to-body thread: SWG/PRE/FWG/FPRE version and correct thread sealing.
  • Stem channel, expanding seal and body: matching parts and secure anchoring in the borehole.
  • Hose and other fittings: correct connections and permissible conditions for each component.

Select the seal to suit the injection material, temperature and substrate condition.

An anchoring symptom is not a diagnosis

SymptomWhat to check
Packer is difficult to insertActual drill bit diameter, borehole geometry and cleanliness, and matching of imperial or metric components.
Packer rotates during tighteningSeal position, stem-to-body engagement and the condition of the anchoring substrate.
Material escapes beside the packerSeal contact with the substrate, borehole damage and the correct anchoring range.

Tighten to suit the model and substrate. If the packer remains loose, check the borehole diameter and seal position instead of applying more torque.

Borehole length and material consumption

Material also fills the available borehole volume. A wider or longer borehole can increase this consumption before material reaches the crack. Borehole volume does not account for total consumption: the remainder depends on cracks, voids, pores and losses during work.
